PRACTICAL ANSWERS FOR A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE
1. IS THE EXPERIENCE SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES?
Yes. Families, mixed-age groups, homeschool settings, community groups, and adults can all take part. For the BE ABRAHAM game, children under age 8 are best paired with an older child or adult.
2. CAN I LEAD THIS EXPERIENCE EVEN IF I’M NOT A TEACHER OR PROFESSIONAL FACILITATOR?
Yes. The experience is fully guided and designed so that a parent, grandparent, homeschool educator, community leader, or any interested adult can lead it with confidence. Read “Before You Begin” and the Facilitator Guide, gather the listed materials, and follow the steps.
3. HOW MUCH PREPARATION DOES THE FACILITATOR NEED?
Very little preparation is needed. Most of the work is simple printing, cutting, and gathering a few materials. The Facilitator Guide walks you through every step, and all the materials you need are included.
4. HOW LONG DOES THE EXPERIENCE TAKE?
A streamlined version of the core experience takes about 45 minutes. One round of the BE ABRAHAM game takes about 20 minutes. Many groups choose to add optional activities, food, or a second round, which can extend the experience.
5. CAN THIS EXPERIENCE WORK WITH A VERY LARGE GROUP?
Yes. With good organization, the experience can be adapted for very large groups. Use several facilitators when needed and organize participants into manageable groups. For large events, most of the extra preparation is simply printing, cutting, and organizing materials in advance.
6. IS THIS EXPERIENCE SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT FAITHS?
Yes. Abraham is an important figure in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the experience focuses on themes that speak across traditions — hospitality, generosity, welcoming others, and human connection. No particular religious background or level of Bible knowledge is required.
7. WHY IS THE BE ABRAHAM GAME A TRADING CARD GAME? WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH HOSPITALITY?
The idea began when I joined my grandchildren at a card-trading event and watched people of different ages naturally approach one another, exchange cards, talk, negotiate, laugh, and connect.
In the BE ABRAHAM game, players give, receive, communicate, and help one another build Abraham’s tent. The exchanges turn hospitality into something participants actually experience together.
8. CAN THE BE ABRAHAM GAME WORK WITH LARGER GROUPS?
Yes. The game can be played with small groups, but it can also work with larger groups such as 18 or 36 participants. With older children, teens, or adults, a larger group can create even more energy and informal interaction. For a group of around 36, a short practice round is especially helpful.
9. DO I HAVE TO USE THE BE ABRAHAM GAME?
No. The core experience is complete without the game. The BE ABRAHAM game is an additional interactive experience that can be added at the end if it fits your group and available time.
10. SHOULD I INCLUDE THE FOOD OPTION?
Food is completely optional, and the experience works very well without it.
Facilitators who choose to include food said it became a meaningful part of the experience because sharing food makes Abraham’s hospitality more tangible. There is also an optional pita recipe, and you may simply use pita, bread, or crackers.
11. CAN I USE ONLY SOME OF THE FOOD ITEMS?
Yes. If you choose to include only part of the food experience, the three items with the strongest effect are olive oil, za’atar, and pita.
Olives and dates are lovely additions, but they create less of the core effect on their own.
12. DO I NEED TO USE ALL THE OPTIONAL SECTIONS?
No. The Optional sections are there so you can choose what fits your group, available time, and interests. The core experience works on its own.
